Back in the Saddle Again

Dad enjoyed his trip to Australia so much, and was so impressed with the sheer size and desolation of the country - at least the part he was in. He loved seeing all the different ways nature can display itself. Very, very different from here.

But once back to New Zealand, he couldn't wait to hit the bush again! We found a bush close to home that we hadn't visited yet, and on the next dry Saturday, set out.

Robby recently introduced us to "letterboxing", and we went to find our first letterbox, which was hidden in this bush. It didn't take long before Dad spotted it - well, he had to stick his hand into a hidden hole and feel around for it. We stamped their visitor's book with our stamp and wrote down that we were from Houston, Texas, U.S.A. It's cool to see where people come from to search for letterboxes. Apparently it's a popular thing to do all over the world.

We made our way through the trees and wound up on a cliff overlooking the harbor. The water was so shallow at this point that you can see the sand bars sticking up through it.

And yet another view of downtown Auckland. Doesn't matter where you are, you can always see the Sky Tower. It's like one of those portraits where the eyes follow you around.

We climbed down from the cliff to the beach...well, maybe not so much of a beach. It was mostly rock like this. It almost looks like concrete that was poured on the sand. The coolest formations with pools and holes and interesting shapes carved into the rock.

Happy to be back...

Happy to have him back!
