Our Gift From Ike !!!

Our gift from Ike

We're off to a breakneck start! After almost five months of preparation, we literally vacuumed and mopped our way out the back door this morning. Work truly does expand to fill the time allotted - and then a few minutes more. However, we feel like we left our home and yard in very nice shape, and hope our renters, the Menefees, will enjoy our place as much as we have. Leaving it was sad, though :o(

We took our last bike ride through the neighborhood last night. We've enjoyed our bikes so much and hated to tuck them away in our storage unit. We rode them up to the unit and walked back home through the neighborhood, enjoying a perfect fall night. It's unfair to leave Houston at this time of year. The weather couldn't be more perfect! The neighborhood is back to its usual beauty, having recovered 99% from Hurricake Ike. It reminds me of why we chose to live where we did.

Packing our life up into four suitcases has been a challenge. When we weighed in at the airport, three were at about 47 pounds. The fourth one was 50.0 pounds - Whew!! Too close for comfort. It will be a relief to unpack them and hang things up and stop camping out. But that's two weeks away yet.

The rest of our 42-plus years is packed up into a 10 x 15 x 10 storage unit (smaller than a single car garage). Unbelievable! Super-engineer Dad saw to it that not a millimeter of space was wasted. It's absolutely an engineering feat. Someone said that if it ever got wet and expanded, we'd never be able to get anything out! I delivered the very final load, and held my breath as I tried to pull the door closed. NOTHING else will fit in there!! Whew, we made it.
